Mulberry

Music : Yves Blanchard (accordion, guitars)

Recorded at Le Forum Studio, Nivillac, april 2018

In 1944, the 15th of august, a thunderstorm destroyed the old bridge, after german army had place a bomb on this bridge. A temporary bridge was then put in service with the floating elements of the artificial harbour "Mulberry" builded by Great-Britain to allow the supply of Allied forces after the Normandy landings.

This floating bridge has allowed, from july 1948 till may 1960, the crossing of the Vilaine river while waiting for the entery in service of a new bridge. This floating bridge has even been crossed, in 1954, by the racing cyclists of the Tour de France !

Passerelle 1954

This tune, intended to look like an irish jig, could feature both the security feeling we had when crossing this bridge, and the impression of rolling or floating on these structures.
